10 Hauts-de-France terraces for lazy days and evenings in the fresh air

Summer 🌞😎 is the perfect time for long walks that revitalise and calm us as well as offering the opportunity to discover new things in Hauts-de-France.

In-between walks, cool down by the water, on a rooftop, in the shadow of historic buildings or in the heart of nature. We’ve hand-picked 10 terraces in Hauts-de-France (plus a bonus one!) where you can simply be – enjoying a drink with loved ones, and perhaps enjoying a light meal.

01. Cooled by the breezes of the Somme

02. With Somme Bay views

Exposed to the elements, the ‘end of the world’ terrace at the Buvette de la Plage in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme in the heart of the Somme Bay has full-frontal horizon views.

03. In the buzzing regional capital

Choose from Au Vieux de la Vieille with its atmosphere of an old-time estaminet (country bistro) or In Bocca Al Lupo pizzeria on the cosy, cobblestoned Place aux Oignons at the heart of Vieux-Lille, two steps from Notre-Dame de la Treille.

04. At the foot of a Gothic cathedral

Perched right up at the top of the upper town of the ‘Crowned Mountain’, the terrace of the Bar du Parvis sits at the foot of Laon’s glorious cathedral.

05. Views over the Flemish plain

At the top of Mont Cassel, voted the nation’s favourite village in 2018, Het Kasteelhof estaminet offers genuine Flemish conviviality and Flemish cuisine – accompanied by great northern French beer and breathtaking views.

06. By a château

The most romantic spot you could ever imagine is the summer garden of Les Rêveries dans la Théière tea room in Ermenonville.

La Madeleine

07. A green oasis

Le By S’ is the unique, peaceful Jardin des Géants two steps from the hectic train station district of Lille. Kids love it.

Le Touquet

09. In a chic seaside resort

O’safran, one of the many bars on the vast beach at Le Touquet, is a great spot to sip a cocktail or eat a light meal of fresh produce just a few metres from the sea.

10. In a unique architectural complex

11. With views of the sea - and the UK

An 11th recommendation we couldn’t resist, and the most northerly: La Cocotte restaurant sits on Malo dam, beneath the Art Deco villas, opposite the beach, the sea and England on the far horizon. It’s a great place for mussels and chips or a seafood platter.
